Sandwich
Overview
Sandwich is a light party game where players create wacky sandwiches from ingredient cards and then judge each other’s culinary creations. Players secretly build sandwiches by selecting ingredient cards, then reveal and present their sandwiches to the group. Other players rank the sandwiches from best to worst, awarding points to the most appealing (or deliberately absurd) creations. The player with the most points after several rounds wins.
Components
- Ingredient cards (various bread types, meats, cheeses, vegetables, sauces, and unusual items)
- Scoring tokens or track
- Round marker
Setup
Shuffle the ingredient card deck. Deal a hand of ingredient cards to each player. Set up the scoring track. Determine the first player.
Turn Structure
Each round consists of:
- Sandwich Building: All players simultaneously select ingredient cards from their hand to create their sandwich. Players place cards face-down.
- Reveal: All players reveal their sandwich creations simultaneously.
- Presentation (optional): Players may describe or name their sandwiches for comedic effect.
- Judging: Each player ranks the other players’ sandwiches in order of preference (they cannot vote for their own).
- Scoring: Points are awarded based on rankings.
- Draw: Players draw new cards to refill their hands.
Actions
Building a Sandwich
- Select ingredient cards from hand to form your sandwich.
- There is no fixed recipe – creativity and strategy both matter.
- Consider what other players might find appealing or amusing.
Judging
- Rank other players’ sandwiches from best to worst.
- The top-ranked sandwich earns the most points (e.g., 3 points for first, 2 for second).
- The lowest-ranked sandwich earns no points.
Scoring / Victory Conditions
Points are awarded each round based on sandwich rankings:
- 1st place sandwich: 3 points
- 2nd place sandwich: 2 points
- Subsequent sandwiches earn decreasing points or none.
After a set number of rounds, the player with the most total points wins.
Special Rules & Edge Cases
- Cannot Vote for Own Sandwich: Players must rank others’ creations only.
- Unusual Ingredients: The game includes deliberately strange ingredient cards to create humorous combinations.
- Tie in Voting: If multiple sandwiches receive the same ranking total, tied players share the points.
- Hand Management: Since players draw new cards each round, hand composition affects strategy.
