Rhino Hero: Super Battle
Overview
Rhino Hero: Super Battle is a 3D dexterity stacking game for 2-4 players (ages 5+), published by HABA. Players build a towering cardboard skyscraper while four superhero characters (Rhino Hero, Giraffe Boy, Big E, and Batguin) climb the floors and battle for supremacy. On each turn, players choose floor tiles, construct walls, place floors, and move their heroes upward. When heroes meet on the same floor, they engage in Super Battles using dice. If the tower collapses, the player who caused it loses. The last player standing (or with the fewest floor tiles remaining) wins.
Components
- Floor tiles (with wall placement marks and special symbols)
- Wall cards (foldable cards used as vertical supports)
- 4 Superhero figures (Rhino Hero, Giraffe Boy, Big E, Batguin)
- Spider monkey figures (hanging tokens)
- 2 Dice (1 light blue movement die, 1 battle die)
- Foundation card
Setup
- Place the foundation card in the center of the table.
- Sort wall cards into stacks by type (tall walls, short walls, etc.).
- Shuffle the floor tiles and deal a set number to each player face-down.
- Each player selects a superhero figure.
- Place all heroes on the foundation (ground floor).
- Place spider monkey figures nearby.
Turn Structure
On each turn:
- Choose a Floor Tile: Select one floor tile from your hand.
- Build Walls: Take the wall cards shown on the previously placed floor tile and stand them on the marks indicated.
- Place Floor Tile: Carefully place your chosen floor tile on top of the walls you just built.
- Roll Movement Die: Roll the light blue die. The number rolled indicates how many floors your hero can move UP the skyscraper.
- Move Hero: Move your superhero up to the indicated number of floors.
- Super Battle (if applicable): If your hero lands on a floor occupied by another hero, both players roll the battle die. The lower roll must move their hero DOWN one floor.
- Resolve Special Symbols: If your placed floor tile shows a special symbol (e.g., spider monkey), resolve its effect.
Actions
- Build: Place walls and a floor tile to extend the skyscraper upward.
- Climb: Move your hero upward based on the movement die roll.
- Super Battle: Roll battle dice when heroes share a floor; loser moves down.
- Place Spider Monkey: If a floor tile shows a monkey symbol, hang a spider monkey figure on that floor.
Scoring / Victory Conditions
- Tower Collapse: If you cause the tower to collapse, you are eliminated (or lose).
- Winning: If the tower collapses, the player whose hero is on the highest floor wins. If multiple heroes are on the same floor, the player with fewer remaining floor tiles wins.
- All Tiles Played: If a player places all their floor tiles without the tower collapsing, they win.
Special Rules & Edge Cases
- Spider Monkeys: When a monkey symbol appears on a placed floor tile, a spider monkey must be hung on the card. This adds weight and instability.
- Super Battle Resolution: The player who rolled lower moves their hero DOWN one floor. On a tie, both heroes remain.
- Hero at Ground Floor: A hero on the ground floor that loses a Super Battle stays at ground level.
- Stacking Precision: Walls must be placed exactly on the marks shown on the floor tile below. Floor tiles must be balanced on the walls.
- Multiple Heroes: If more than two heroes share a floor, all involved players battle. The lowest roller moves down.
- Steady Hands: This is a dexterity game; careful placement is essential to prevent collapse.
