Return to Dark Tower

Overview

Return to Dark Tower is a cooperative (or competitive) adventure game for 1-4 players published by Restoration Games. It is a sequel to the 1981 Milton Bradley classic Dark Tower. Players take the role of heroes who must gather resources, cleanse buildings, defeat monsters, and undertake quests to build their strength and ultimately identify and defeat the foe inhabiting the Dark Tower. The game features a Bluetooth-powered, app-enabled motorized tower at the center of the board that dispenses corruption, controls events, and drives the narrative. The companion app manages the game state, tower events, and enemy behavior.

Components

Setup

  1. Place the Tower upright in the center of the game board.
  2. Insert batteries and connect the Tower to the companion app via Bluetooth.
  3. Each player selects a hero and takes their miniature and player board.
  4. Each player is assigned a home kingdom (North, East, South, or West).
  5. Press “Start New Game” in the app; the app guides remaining setup.
  6. The app assigns starting quests, places buildings, and initializes the Tower.

Turn Structure

The game is split into 6 months. At the start of each month, 2 quests are assigned. Each player’s turn consists of:

  1. Heroic Action: Perform one major action (see Actions below).
  2. Tower Response: The app/Tower responds with events, corruption drops, enemy spawns, or other effects.
  3. Resolve Effects: Handle any corruption, battles, or events triggered by the Tower.
  4. End Turn: Pass to the next player.

Actions

On your turn, choose one Heroic Action:

Cleanse Building Remove corruption from a building in your kingdom

Gather Resources Collect warriors, spirits, or gold from your kingdom
Trade Exchange resources with another player in the same kingdom
