Raids

Overview

A Viking-themed game of exploration and combat for 2-4 players. Over 4 Voyages, players steer their Longships around a circular World board, stopping at Voyage tiles to collect goods, weapons, pennants, runes, and coins. Players may fight each other for contested tiles, and must battle monsters along the way. The turn order is dynamic – the player furthest behind always goes next. The player with the most Glory points after the 4th Voyage wins.

Components

Component Quantity
World board 1
Longship boards 4
Longship markers (4 colors) 4
Viking pawns 40
Coins (1, 3, 6 Glory) 20
Voyage tiles (backs numbered 1-4) 64
Harbor tiles 9

Setup

  1. Place World board centrally. Each player takes a Longship board and matching marker.
  2. Place Viking pawns in center reserve.
  3. Sort Voyage tiles by backs (1-4) into face-down stacks. Shuffle Voyage 1 tiles and place face-up on board spaces following arrows.
  4. Place the starting Harbor tile. Shuffle remaining Harbor tiles; place one next to each Voyage stack. Return extras to box.
  5. Starting player takes position 4 (furthest back); others fill remaining starting spaces clockwise.
  6. Deal starting Vikings based on player order.
  7. Place Vikings in Villages on the board equal to player count.

Turn Structure

The player furthest behind on the board (clockwise) takes the next turn. A turn has 2 phases:

  1. Take a Voyage tile – take the tile your marker is in front of.
  2. Navigate – move your Longship forward along the arrows.

On your first turn of each Voyage, skip Phase 1 (no tile to take) and go straight to Navigate.

Actions

Phase 1: Take a Voyage Tile

Take the tile your Longship is currently in front of and place it:

Phase 2: Navigate

Move your Longship forward following arrows. You must discard all Voyage tiles between you and the next player ahead. Then choose where to stop:

Passage tiles: You can never stop on a Passage space; you must navigate past.

Combat

When stopping on an occupied tile:

  1. Attacker discards 1 Viking.
  2. Defender chooses: Retaliate (discard 2 Vikings) or Flee (move forward).
  3. Alternating escalation: each Retaliation costs 1 more Viking than the previous.
  4. The player who Flees moves to a different tile ahead.

Monsters

When passing a Monster tile, choose:

Voyage End / Harbor

At Voyage end, score the Harbor tile: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place earn VP based on the condition shown. Set up next Voyage tiles and Harbor tile. Reset starting positions.
