Push a Monster

Overview

A dexterity game for 2-4 players ages 5 and up. Players take turns rolling a die, then use two monster pushers to push a wooden monster into a crowded arena. If you knock other monsters off the arena, the other players collect matching tokens. The player with the longest line of collected monster tokens wins.

Components

Component Quantity

Monster tokens (sorted by size into 6 stacks) 81
Wooden monsters (with stickers) 27

Rules booklet 1

Before first game: attach appropriate stickers to one side of each monster and place one icon sticker on each side of the die.

Setup

  1. Place the monster arena in the center of the playing area.
  2. Sort monster tokens by size into 6 stacks, within easy reach.
  3. Place the following 7 monsters onto the arena: both purple monsters plus one monster of each other type.
  4. Arrange the starting monsters so none protrude over the arena edge, stickers face up.
  5. The player who last saw a monster goes first (otherwise youngest player).

Turn Structure

  1. Roll the die.
  2. Identify the monster type shown (or choose if question mark).
  3. Take the corresponding monster from the supply.
  4. Place it on the large pusher.
  5. Use both pushers to push the monster onto the arena.
  6. Next player clockwise takes their turn.

Actions

Rolling a Monster Icon

Take one monster of the matching type from the general supply. Place it on the light mark on the large pusher. Hold the large pusher in one hand and the smaller pusher in the other. Push the monster onto the arena using only the two pushers.

Rolling the Question Mark

Count each monster type remaining in the general supply. Take one of whichever type occurs most frequently. If tied, you choose among the tied types.

Monster Falls Off the Arena

When a monster falls off during the active player’s turn, all other players take one token of that monster type from the supply. If multiple monsters fall, all other players take one token for each fallen monster. Fallen monsters are removed from the game permanently. If a monster falls for non-gameplay reasons (e.g., table bump), simply remove it from the game.

Scoring / Victory Conditions

The game ends immediately when a die roll shows a monster type that is no longer available in the general supply.

All players arrange their collected monster tokens in a single line. The player with the longest line of tokens wins. In case of a tie, tied players share the victory.
