Overview

Project L is a fast-paced engine-building puzzle game where players use polyomino pieces to complete puzzles and earn points. Players build up their supply of increasingly powerful pieces to tackle more complex puzzles. On each turn, a player performs 3 actions, choosing from taking puzzles, upgrading pieces, placing pieces, or recycling the display.

Components

Setup

  1. Shuffle White puzzles into a face-down White deck in the center.
  2. Take a number of Black puzzles based on player count, shuffle into a Black deck beside the White deck. Return unused Black puzzles to box.
  3. Reveal the top 4 puzzles from each deck, placing them face-up in rows to the left of each deck.
  4. Place all colored pieces in a shared reserve.
  5. Shuffle player mats; deal one to each player. The player with the first player mat starts.
  6. Each player takes 1 level-1 piece and 1 level-2 piece for their personal supply.

Turn Structure

On your turn, you must perform exactly 3 actions. You may perform any action multiple times and in any order. The 5 possible actions are:

Take

Take any 1 puzzle from either row and place it above your player mat. Replace it from the corresponding deck. Alternatively, take the top puzzle from either deck without looking first. Maximum 4 unfinished puzzles at a time.

Recycle

Choose one row of puzzles (White or Black), remove all 4 puzzles and place them on the bottom of the corresponding deck, then refill the row with 4 new puzzles from that deck.

Upgrade

Choose one of two options:

Place

Place 1 piece from your supply into one of your puzzles. It must fit flat in the recessed area without overlapping other pieces. You may flip and rotate the piece freely. Once placed, a piece cannot be moved or removed.

Master Action (once per turn)

Place 1 piece from your supply into each of your unfinished puzzles simultaneously. This counts as 1 action but can only be used once per turn.

Actions

Completing Puzzles

When all spaces in a puzzle are filled with correctly colored pieces, the puzzle is complete.
