Mystery of the Abbey

Overview

Mystery of the Abbey is a deduction game set in a medieval Templars’ Abbey where Brother Adelmo has been found dead. Players are investigators moving through the Abbey’s rooms, questioning each other, searching for clues, and making revelations about the culprit’s characteristics. Each of the 24 suspect monks has 5 traits (Order, Title, Hood, Facial Hair, Girth). One suspect card is hidden as the culprit; players deduce the culprit’s identity through questioning and room actions.

Components

Setup

  1. Place the board in the center. Each player chooses a monk and places it in the Chapel.
  2. Give each player a deduction notebook with a suspect sheet.
  3. Shuffle Library, Scriptorium, Event, and Crypt cards separately; place on designated board spots.
  4. Shuffle 24 Suspect cards. Place 1 face down under the board (the culprit).
  5. Place 5 (3 or 6 players) or 3 (4 or 5 players) Suspect cards face down on the board.
  6. Deal remaining Suspect cards equally to players.
  7. Roll a die to determine first player; give them the Mass bell and 8 Mass cards in order.
