Monsterpocalypse
Overview
Monsterpocalypse is a two-player miniatures combat game featuring giant monsters and their unit forces battling across a destructible cityscape. Each player controls a monster and supporting units, using action dice to power attacks, movements, and special abilities. The game combines strategic unit placement with dramatic monster-vs-monster combat.
Components
- Monster figures and unit figures (varies by faction)
- City map/play mat
- Building models (destructible)
- Action dice (multiple per player)
- Stat cards for monsters and units
- Power zone markers
- Damage markers
Setup
- Assemble the city map with buildings placed in designated positions.
- Each player selects a monster and supporting units.
- Place monster figures on starting positions on opposite sides of the map.
- Deploy unit figures in starting zones.
- Each player assembles their action dice pool.
Turn Structure
Each turn alternates between the two players. A player’s turn has two phases:
- Unit Turn: Spend action dice to activate and move units, attack with units, or secure power zones.
- Monster Turn: Spend action dice to move your monster, attack, use special abilities, or perform power attacks.
Action Dice
Players roll action dice at the start of each phase. The results determine which actions are available. Dice can be allocated to movement, attacks, or special abilities.
Actions
Unit Actions
- Move: Spend dice to move units across the map.
- Attack: Units can attack enemy units or support monster attacks.
- Secure: Units can claim power zones for resource generation.
- Screen: Units can protect your monster or block enemy movement.
Monster Actions
- Move: Monsters move through the city, potentially destroying buildings.
- Brawl/Blast: Melee and ranged attacks against the enemy monster.
- Power Attack: Special devastating attacks (body slam, throw, etc.) that cost multiple dice.
- Stomp: Destroy buildings for tactical advantage.
Building Destruction
Buildings can be destroyed by monsters during combat, changing the battlefield and potentially dealing damage to nearby figures.
Scoring / Victory Conditions
Win by defeating the opposing monster (reducing it to 0 health) or meeting other victory conditions specific to the scenario.
Monsters have two forms (alpha and hyper), flipping to hyper form when taking enough damage. The hyper form is more powerful but represents the monster’s last stand.
Special Rules & Edge Cases
- Power zones generate additional action dice when controlled by your units.
- Different factions have unique special abilities and synergies.
- Buildings provide cover and strategic positioning for units.
- Thrown objects (buildings, units) can damage other figures.
- The game supports multiple factions with distinct playstyles.
