MindTrap
Overview
MindTrap is a lateral-thinking puzzle party game where players or teams solve brain teasers, riddles, trick questions, and logic puzzles. Players advance along a track on a scorecard by correctly solving challenges. The first player or team to reach the end of the track wins.
Components
- MindTrap question cards (500+ puzzles)
- Scorecard with dual-path track (light and dark paths)
- Pencil for scoring
Setup
- Each team or player chooses one of the two center “hollow” squares on the scorecard, which determines their path (light or dark).
- Shuffle the MindTrap cards and place them in a stack.
- Determine which team or player goes first.
Turn Structure
On your turn:
- The opposing team or player draws a card and reads the puzzle aloud.
- You have a reasonable amount of time to discuss and provide an answer.
- If correct, advance one space on the scorecard track.
- Play passes to the next team/player.
Actions
Solving Puzzles
- Listen carefully to the puzzle as read aloud.
- Puzzles include lateral thinking problems, trick questions, logic puzzles, math problems, and word play.
- Provide your answer. The reader checks the back of the card for the correct solution.
- If correct, mark your progress on the scorecard.
Challenge Types
- Brain teasers: Logic-based problems requiring creative thinking.
- Trick questions: Questions designed to mislead with assumptions.
- Riddles: Classic riddle format with wordplay.
- Logic puzzles: Problems requiring deductive reasoning.
Scoring / Victory Conditions
- Each correct answer advances your marker one space on the track.
- The first player or team to reach the end of their path on the scorecard wins.
- There are no penalties for incorrect answers.
Special Rules & Edge Cases
- Teams may discuss answers together before responding.
- The reader should read the question exactly as printed on the card.
- Some questions may have multiple acceptable interpretations; use the answer on the card as definitive.
- The game can be played with any number of teams or individuals.
- House rules for time limits are recommended to keep the game moving.
Player Reference
Turn: Opponent reads puzzle -> You answer -> Correct = advance 1 space -> Next player’s turn
Win condition: First to reach the end of the scorecard track
No penalties for wrong answers; simply pass the turn
