Overview
Master Labyrinth is an advanced version of the classic aMAZEing Labyrinth by Ravensburger. Players navigate a shifting maze by sliding path tiles to create routes, collecting numbered magic tokens in ascending order to become the Master Magician. The maze is constantly changing as players push tiles in and out of the grid.
Components
- 1 game board (7x7 grid with fixed and sliding path tiles)
- 34 square path tiles (some fixed, some movable)
- 1 extra path tile (used for sliding)
- 24 numbered magic tokens (numbered 1-24)
- 4 player pawns
- Rules booklet
Setup
- Place the game board. Fixed tiles are already on the board in set positions.
- Randomly place the remaining movable path tiles on the board to fill the grid, with 1 tile left over.
- Place numbered magic tokens on designated spaces (ascending numbers from 1-24).
- Each player places their pawn on their starting corner.
- Determine starting player.
Turn Structure
On your turn:
- Slide a tile: Push the extra tile into any open row or column edge, sliding all tiles in that row/column by one space. The tile pushed off the opposite end becomes the new extra tile.
- Move your pawn: Move your pawn along connected paths as far as you wish (or stay put).
- Collect tokens: If you reach a space with the lowest available magic token (your current target), collect it.
Actions
Sliding Tiles
- You must slide a tile before moving.
- Push the extra tile into any row or column that has a sliding edge (not all edges allow sliding – some are fixed).
- All tiles in that row/column shift by one position.
- You may NOT immediately reverse the previous player’s slide (pushing the same row/column from the opposite direction).
Movement
After sliding, move your pawn along any connected path. There is no movement limit – you can travel as far as connected paths allow. You may also choose not to move.
Collecting Tokens
Players must collect tokens in numerical order (1 first, then 2, then 3, etc.). When you reach the space containing your current target number, take the token. The next number becomes your target.
Scoring / Victory Conditions
The first player to collect a predetermined number of tokens AND return to their starting corner wins. The number varies:
- 2 players: collect 12 tokens each
- 3 players: collect 8 tokens each
- 4 players: collect 6 tokens each
After collecting all required tokens, you must navigate back to your starting corner to win.
Special Rules & Edge Cases
- If your pawn is on a tile that gets pushed off the board, your pawn wraps to the newly inserted tile on the opposite side.
- Fixed tiles (marked on the board) can never be moved.
- The restriction against reversing the previous slide prevents infinite loops.
- Planning your slide to simultaneously create your own path and block opponents is key strategy.
- Magic tokens must be collected in strict numerical order – you cannot skip or collect out of sequence.
