Overview
Las Vegas is a dice-placement game where players act as gamblers trying their luck at six casinos. Each round, players roll dice and assign groups of matching dice to corresponding casinos to compete for banknotes. The game is played over four rounds, and the player with the most money at the end wins.
Components
- 40 dice (8 in each of 5 player colours)
- 6 casino tiles (numbered 1-6, named Golden Nugget, Caesar’s Palace, The Mirage, Sahara, Luxor, Circus Circus)
- 54 banknotes: 5 each of $60,000, $70,000, $80,000, $90,000; 6 each of $10,000, $40,000, $50,000; 8 each of $20,000, $30,000
- 1 start player card
Setup
- Place the 6 casinos in a row in the middle of the table, ordered by die value (1 through 6).
- Shuffle all 54 banknotes face-down into a pile next to the casinos.
- Deal banknotes face-up above each casino until the total value at that casino is at least $50,000. Arrange notes so all values are visible.
- Each player takes 8 dice of one colour.
- The oldest player receives the start player card.
Turn Structure
Each round proceeds as follows:
- Roll and Place: Starting with the start player and going clockwise, each player on their turn rolls all dice they have remaining.
- Choose a Number: The player must pick exactly one number from those rolled and place ALL dice showing that number onto the matching casino. Partial placement is not allowed.
- Continue: Play passes to the next player. If a player has no dice left, they pass for the rest of the round.
- Payout: Once all players have placed all dice, casinos pay out.
Actions
Rolling and Placing Dice
- On your turn, roll all remaining dice (8 at the start, fewer as the round progresses).
- Choose exactly one die value and place ALL dice of that value on the corresponding casino.
- You cannot split dice of the same value across turns – all must be placed at once.
Casino Payout (End of Round)
- Cancel tied dice: At each casino, if two or more players have the same number of dice, ALL of those tied players remove their dice and receive nothing from that casino.
- Distribute banknotes: The player with the most dice at a casino takes the highest-value banknote. The player with the second-most dice takes the next highest banknote, and so on. If there are not enough banknotes for all remaining players, those players receive nothing.
- Leftover banknotes are placed face-down at the bottom of the banknote pile.
Preparing the Next Round
- Resupply each casino with banknotes until each has at least $50,000 again.
- Pass the start player card to the left.
Scoring / Victory Conditions
- The game ends after exactly 4 rounds.
- Players count their total money.
- The player with the most money wins.
- Tie-breaker: the player with the most individual banknotes. If still tied, those players share the victory.
Special Rules & Edge Cases
Variant for 2-4 Players
In addition to their 8 coloured dice, each player receives neutral (white) dice:
- 2 players: 4 white dice each (12 dice total per player)
- 3-4 players: 2 white dice each (10 dice total per player)
- In a 3-player game, the 2 leftover white dice are rolled by the start player at the beginning of the round and placed accordingly.
White dice are rolled and placed just like your own dice. At payout, white dice are treated as belonging to an imaginary additional player. Any money “won” by the white dice is placed at the bottom of the banknote pile.
Key Edge Cases
- A player who runs out of dice before others simply passes; the remaining player(s) continue taking turns.
- Ties cancel ALL involved players’ dice at that casino, even if it means nobody wins anything there.
- In Example 2 from the rules: if Anna and Carla each have 2 dice, and Benno and Denny each have 1, ALL four players remove their dice and nobody scores.
