Overview
Kitty Bitty is a children’s dice game where kittens race around yarn balls trying to avoid being caught by the Mommy Cat. Players roll colored dice to move their kittens, circle around yarn balls, and race back to the basket. The first kitten to jump on all 10 yarn balls and return to the basket wins.
Components
- 4 Kittens (player pieces)
- 4 Mommy Cats
- 10 Yarn Balls
- 18 Eyes (with kitten or blank printed on bottom)
- 1 Basket
- 2 Colored Dice
Setup
- Arrange the Basket and Yarn Balls in a circle on the playing area — the Basket is the starting and ending point.
- Place two eyes in every Mommy Cat so that each has a blank eye and an eye with a kitten printed on the bottom.
- Mix up the Mommy Cats so no one remembers which eye is which.
- Have every player choose a kitten and place it on the Basket to start.
Turn Structure
The youngest player takes the first turn. On your turn:
- Roll the dice to see the colors.
- Find the Mommy Cat with the eye colors that match the dice.
- Pick one of her eyes to lift.
Eye Results
- Kitten printed on the bottom: Your kitten has been caught! It goes back and must move forward again. It is the next player’s turn to roll the dice.
- Blank (no kitten on bottom): The Mommy Cat didn’t see your kitten and it can jump onto the next Yarn Ball. You then take another turn and continue to play until your kitten is caught.
Actions
- Moving: When you successfully avoid the Mommy Cat (blank eye), your kitten jumps to the next Yarn Ball in the circle.
- Getting Caught: When the eye reveals a kitten, your turn ends and your kitten stays where it is (or goes back depending on variant).
- Continuing: As long as you keep picking blank eyes, you keep rolling and moving.
Scoring / Victory Conditions
The first kitten to jump on all 10 Yarn Balls and make it back to the Basket wins the game.
Special Rules & Edge Cases
- Play continues clockwise, with everyone taking turns until one kitten completes the full circuit.
- The game is designed for very young children (ages 3+).
- The memory element comes from remembering which eyes are blank and which have kittens underneath in each Mommy Cat.
