Imaginiff
Overview
Imaginiff is a party game where players answer hypothetical “Imagine if…” questions about each other (or well-known people). Players vote on which answer best fits the person being asked about, and those who vote with the majority move forward on the board. The first player to reach the Winner’s space wins the game.
Components
- 1 Game board (with 8 numbered name spaces and dry-erase surface)
- 264 Imaginiff cards divided into 3 categories (Choices, Everybody, Versus)
- 64 Voting cards (numbered 1-8 in 8 colors)
- 8 Colored movers (pawns)
- 1 Die (with colored faces and numbers)
- 1 ? token
- 1 Imaginiff dry-erase pen
- 1 Cloth eraser
Setup
- Using the dry-erase marker, write the name of each player on one of the blank, numbered spaces on the game board.
- If there are fewer than 8 players, fill the empty spaces with names of people all players know (celebrities, fictional characters, etc.).
- Each player chooses a colored mover and the matching group of numbered voting cards (1-8).
- Place all movers on the START space.
- Place the ? token on the number 1 name space.
- Shuffle each set of question cards (by back color) separately and place them in three face-down piles near the board.
- The youngest player starts; play moves clockwise.
Important: At the end of every game, erase the names on the board so the ink does not set over time.
Turn Structure
On each turn:
- The active player rolls the die.
- The die indicates two things:
- Color determines the question category (gray = Everybody, red = Choices, black = Versus).
- Number determines how many spaces the question is worth.
- The player draws a card from the appropriate deck and reads the question aloud.
- All players (including the reader) secretly vote by placing a numbered card face down.
- When everyone has voted, all cards are revealed simultaneously.
- Every player who voted for the majority answer moves forward the number of spaces shown on the die.
Actions
Card Categories
Choices (Red die face):
- Draw from the Choices pile.
- Move the ? token to the next name (in numerical order) on the board.
- Insert that person’s name into the blank on the card.
- Read the question and its multiple-choice answers aloud.
- Players vote by placing the number card matching their chosen answer (1-6).
Everybody (Gray die face):
- Draw from the Everybody pile and read aloud.
- Players vote by choosing any name on the game board, placing the corresponding number card.
Versus (Black die face):
- Draw from the Versus pile.
- Move the ? token to the next name on the board.
- Insert that person’s name into the blank on the card.
- The question is a comparison between the named person and the reader (“__ and I…”).
- Players vote for one of the two people.
- If the ? token lands on the reader’s own name, move to the next name instead.
Voting Rules
- All votes are secret (cards placed face down).
- Everyone who voted for the answer with the most votes moves forward.
- If two or more answers tie for the most votes, ALL players who voted for ANY of those tied answers move forward.
- If every player voted for a different answer (no majority), NO ONE moves.
Scoring / Victory Conditions
- The first player to reach the Winner’s space (final space on the board) wins.
- If two or more players tie (reach the final space on the same turn), a tiebreaker round is played: all players continue playing as normal until one of the tied players pulls ahead. Multiple tiebreaker rounds may be needed.
Special Rules & Edge Cases
- The ? token advances in numerical order each time a Choices or Versus card is drawn, cycling through all 8 names on the board.
- For Versus questions, if the ? token lands on the reader’s own name, skip to the next name.
- Empty name spaces must be filled with names of people all players know; they are still valid subjects for questions.
- Players move forward the exact number shown on the die when they vote with the majority.
