Overview
In Harmonies, players build personal landscapes by placing colored tokens on their boards and creating habitats to attract animals. Tokens form features like Trees, Buildings, Mountains, Fields, and Rivers/Islands. Animal cards show specific habitat patterns that must be recreated to score points. The player with the most combined landscape and animal points wins.
Components
- 1 Pouch
- 1 Central board (double-sided: 2-4 players / Solo)
- 4 Personal boards (double-sided: Side A / Side B)
- 4 Reminder cards
- 120 Tokens (23 gray, 23 blue, 21 brown, 19 green, 19 yellow, 15 red)
- 66 Animal cubes
- 4 Nature’s Spirit cubes
- 32 Animal cards
- 10 Nature’s Spirit cards
- 1 Scoresheet pad
Setup
- Place Central board (2-4 Players side up).
- Put all tokens in the Pouch.
- Fill each of the 5 Central board spaces with 3 tokens drawn randomly from the Pouch.
- Shuffle Animal cards; place 5 face up next to the Central board; rest as draw pile.
- Place Animal cubes within reach.
- Each player takes a Personal board (all use same side). Each takes a matching Reminder card.
- Last player to see a magnificent landscape goes first; point Central board arrow toward them.
Turn Structure
Starting with the first player, proceeding clockwise, each player takes a turn with 3 actions (performed in any order):
1. Take 3 Tokens (mandatory, once per turn)
Take all 3 tokens from any one Central board space. Place them on your Personal board following placement rules.
2. Take 1 Animal Card (optional, once per turn)
Choose 1 of the 5 face-up Animal cards. Place it above your Personal board (max 4 cards at a time). Take Animal cubes to fill each space on the card.
3. Place 1 Animal Cube (optional, unlimited times per turn)
If a habitat pattern on an Animal card matches your board, place the bottommost cube on the corresponding token. Once all cubes are placed, the card is complete and no longer counts toward the 4-card limit.
End of Turn
Draw 3 tokens from the Pouch to refill the Central board. Refill Animal cards to 5 if needed.
Actions
Token Placement Rules
- Can always be placed on an empty space.
- Can be stacked on 1 or 2 previously placed tokens (for Trees, Buildings, Mountains). No other stacking allowed.
- Cannot be placed underneath existing tokens.
- Cannot be placed on a space occupied by an Animal cube.
Stacking Guide
| Feature | Structure |
|———|———–|
| Tree | Green token on 0, 1, or 2 brown tokens (height 1-3) |
| Building | Red token on 1 brown, gray, or red token |
| Mountain | 1, 2, or 3 gray tokens stacked |
| Field | Yellow tokens (ground level) |
| Water | Blue tokens (ground level) |
Animal Cube Placement
- Habitat pattern must match exactly on your board (any orientation).
- Tree/Mountain heights must match the card exactly.
- The target token must be unoccupied.
- Buildings can have any bottom token color.
- A single token can be part of multiple habitats.
- Placement is final even if the habitat pattern later changes.
Scoring / Victory Conditions
Landscape Scoring
| Feature | Points |
|———|——–|
| Building | 5 pts each, only if surrounded by 3+ different colored adjacent tokens (0 pts otherwise) |
| Mountain (height 1) | 1 pt (must be adjacent to another Mountain) |
| Mountain (height 2) | 3 pts (must be adjacent to another Mountain) |
| Mountain (height 3) | 6 pts (must be adjacent to another Mountain) |
| Field | 5 pts per group of 2+ contiguous yellow tokens |
| Tree (height 1) | 1 pt |
| Tree (height 2) | 3 pts |
| Tree (height 3) | 6 pts |
| River (Side A) | Score longest river by token count; 4 pts per token beyond 6th |
| Islands (Side B) | 5 pts per island (groups separated by blue tokens) |
Animal Card Scoring
For each Animal card, score the topmost empty space’s point value. A card with all cubes still on it = 0 points. No penalty for incomplete cards.
End of Game Triggers
- The Pouch is empty when you need to refill the Central board.
- A player has 2 or fewer unoccupied spaces on their Personal board.
Finish the current round so all players have equal turns. Highest total points wins. Tiebreaker: most Animal cubes placed. Further tie: shared victory.
Special Rules & Edge Cases
- Nature’s Spirit Cards (advanced variant): Deal 2 to each player; choose 1, return the other. Counts toward 4-card limit until the Spirit cube is placed. Scores bonus points based on specific landscape conditions at game end.
- Solo Mode: Use Solo side of Central board (3 spaces). Only 3 Animal cards displayed. After each turn, discard remaining 6 tokens (not returned to Pouch). Aim for high score rating.
- Isolated Mountains score 0 points (must be adjacent to another Mountain).
- Fields of 4+ contiguous yellow tokens count as only 1 Field (5 points total). Separate small groups for maximum scoring.
- Side A has River scoring (longest consecutive blue token chain). Side B has Island scoring (5 pts per island).
