Overview
Guess Who? is a classic two-player deduction game. Each player selects a secret Mystery Person card, then players take turns asking yes-or-no questions about their opponent’s Mystery Person to narrow down the possibilities. The first player to correctly guess the opponent’s Mystery Person wins.
Components
- 2 plastic gameboards with flip-up face frames
- 48 plastic face frames
- 48 face cards (to insert into frames)
- 24 Mystery cards
- 8 rubber feet
- 2 score keepers
Setup
- Peel rubber feet and attach to the bottom corners of each gameboard.
- Gently detach all 48 face cards from the sheet and fit each into a frame.
- Attach loaded frames to matching-color gameboards (make sure the tab fits into the slot properly).
- Carefully remove the two score keepers from the runner and attach them to the gameboard.
- Discard the runner. Use the score keepers for Championship Play.
- Each player sits on one side, facing their opponent.
- Each player chooses a Mystery card at random from the shuffled deck.
- Place your Mystery card in the card slot nearest you so your opponent cannot see it.
- Flip all face frames upright so all faces are showing.
Turn Structure
- The younger player goes first.
- On your turn, ask ONE question about your opponent’s Mystery Person.
- Each question must have a “yes” or “no” answer.
- After your opponent answers, flip down all faces that are eliminated by the answer.
- Play alternates until one player is ready to guess.
Actions
Asking Questions
- You may ask one question per turn about physical characteristics.
- Questions must be answerable with “yes” or “no.”
- Examples: “Does your person have white hair?” “Is your person wearing a hat?” “Does your person have blue eyes?”
Eliminating Faces
- After receiving an answer, flip down all faces that do not match.
- Example: If you ask “Does your person have glasses?” and the answer is “no,” flip down all faces with glasses.
Guessing the Mystery Person
- Instead of asking a question on your turn, you may guess the Mystery Person by name.
- Say “I think your Mystery Person is [name]!”
- Your opponent checks the Mystery card.
- If correct, you win. If wrong, you lose.
- You may not ask a question AND guess on the same turn.
Scoring / Victory Conditions
- The first player to correctly identify the opponent’s Mystery Person wins.
- If your guess is wrong, you lose immediately.
- Championship Play: Play a series of games. Use the score keeper to track wins. The first player to 5 wins is the champion.
Special Rules & Edge Cases
- You must ask “yes” or “no” style questions only. You cannot ask open-ended questions like “What color is your person’s hair?”
- You cannot ask questions about whether the face is on a specific card position.
- Both players’ faces should remain visible until eliminated.
- Challenge Game variant: Both players draw 2 Mystery cards each, placing them in both card slots. Players take turns asking questions about both of their opponent’s Mystery People simultaneously.
- Replacement parts: Available from Milton Bradley Company.
