Gother Than Thou is a card game of betrayal and fame set in the goth subculture. Players compete to be the first to accumulate 20 Goth Points while managing negative conditions like Sickness and Debt. Each turn, players distribute cards from their hand to every player’s Fate pile, creating a tense game of social strategy where you help yourself while burdening your opponents.
On your turn, perform these steps in order:
Discard one card from the top of your Fate pile (if you have any cards in it).
Place one card from your hand face up on top of every player’s Fate pile, including your own. If you do not have enough cards for all players, play all remaining cards to the players of your choosing.
Draw cards to replenish your hand up to your maximum hand size (5 minus your Sickness points). If you are NOT in debt, you may draw from either the draw pile or the discard pile. If you ARE in debt, you may only draw from the draw pile.
Play passes to the left.
Cards placed on Fate piles provide various effects to the player whose pile they sit on. The top card of each player’s Fate pile is the active card that currently affects that player.
Players track three scores:
The first player to have 20 or more Goth Points at the end of their turn wins the game.
Hand size: 5 minus Sickness points
Win condition: 20+ Goth Points at end of your turn
Turn order: Discard from Fate > Distribute cards to all Fate piles > Draw to hand limit
Swoon: Triggered at 5+ Sickness; discard all Fate pile cards
Debt: Negative Money; cannot draw from discard pile
Card distribution: 1 card to every player’s Fate pile each turn (including your own)
