Overview

Glik is an abstract strategy race game for 2-4 players. Players try to transport all their pieces from their starting positions to their home positions while blocking opponents. The core mechanic involves pieces that move in one direction until they hit a wall or one of the special “blocker” pieces. Strategic placement and movement of blockers creates the tactical depth, as players must balance advancing their own pieces with obstructing opponents.

Components

Setup

  1. Place the game board between the players.
  2. Each player takes their colored pieces and places them in their starting area.
  3. Place blocker pieces on designated starting positions.
  4. Determine first player.

Turn Structure

On your turn:

1. Move One Piece

Choose one of your pieces (regular or blocker) to move.

2. Pass

Play passes to the next player.

Actions

Sliding Movement

Regular pieces slide in a straight line until stopped. You cannot stop in the middle of a slide – the piece always travels as far as possible until blocked.

Blocker Placement/Movement

Blockers can be moved to strategic positions to:

Strategic Blocking

The interplay between sliding pieces and blocker positioning creates the strategic core. Placing blockers to simultaneously help your pieces and hinder opponents is key.

Scoring / Victory Conditions

Win: The first player to move all their pieces from their starting area to their home area wins.

Special Rules & Edge Cases

Piece Collisions

If a sliding piece encounters another player’s piece, specific rules apply (varies by edition – pieces may stack, push, or be blocked).

Blocker vs. Regular Pieces

Blocker pieces have different movement rules than regular pieces. They cannot slide freely and instead move in a more controlled manner, allowing precise placement.

Multi-Player Dynamics

With 3-4 players, the blocking becomes more complex as multiple opponents create obstacles. Temporary alliances (blocking a leader) emerge naturally.

No Backwards Movement

Pieces generally move toward their home area. Retreating may be restricted or carry penalties.
