Overview
Flamecraft is a game about artisan dragons and the Flamekeepers who guide them. Players visit Shops in a shared town, placing dragons, gathering goods, casting enchantments, and fulfilling secret Fancy Dragon goals to build their reputation. The player furthest ahead on the Reputation track when the game ends wins.
Components
- 1 Town mat with Reputation track
- 6 Starter Shops and 6 Starter Artisan Dragons
- Artisan Dragon deck, Fancy Dragon deck, Enchantment decks (Purple and Golden)
- Shop deck
- Goods tokens (6 types: Bread, Meat, Iron, Cloth, Potion, Plant) and Coin tokens
- Player tokens (dragon meeples), Reputation markers, Player aids
Setup
- Roll out the Town mat. Place 6 Starter Shops on any 6 Shop spaces. Place matching Starter Artisan Dragons on their Shops.
- Place Goods tokens in separate piles. Place Coins on the Fountain.
- Sort Shop cards by icon into 7 piles; take 1 from each Goods pile + 4 from the 7th pile to make a 10-card Shop deck. Shuffle face-down.
- Remove Artisan Dragons for player count (2-3 players remove extras). Shuffle remaining into Artisan deck. Reveal 5 to the Park.
- Shuffle Fancy Dragon deck. Choose Purple or Golden Enchantment deck; shuffle and reveal 5 face-up.
- Each player: choose a dragon token, take matching Reputation marker and player aid. Place markers at start of Reputation track.
- Deal each player 3 Artisan Dragons and 2 Fancy Dragons (keep 1 Fancy, return other to bottom of deck).
- 4th and 5th players each take 1 Goods token of their choice to start.
Turn Structure
On your turn:
1. Visit a Shop
Move your dragon to any Shop different from your last visit. If other players are there, give each 1 Good or 1 Coin to enter.
2. Choose: Gather OR Enchant
Gathering:
- Gather Goods: Gain goods/coins from the Shop icon, each Artisan Dragon, and each Enchantment at the Shop.
- (Optional) Place a Dragon: Place 1 matching Artisan Dragon from your hand into an empty slot. Gain the slot’s reward.
- (Optional) Fire Up a Dragon: Use 1 Artisan Dragon’s fire-up ability at the Shop.
- (Optional) Use Shop Ability: Use the Shop’s special ability (if any).
Enchanting:
- Cast Enchantment: Choose a face-up Enchantment matching the Shop’s icon. Pay its Goods cost. Tuck it behind the Shop. Gain its rewards.
- (Optional) Fire Up ALL Dragons: Use every Artisan Dragon’s fire-up ability at the Shop.
3. End of Turn
- Expand Town: If you filled a Shop’s last slot, draw a new Shop face-down on an empty Town space. Reveal it now.
- Discard: Discard down to 7 Artisan Dragons and 7 Goods tokens in hand/supply.
- Refresh: Refill face-up Enchantments and Artisan Dragons in the Park to 5 each.
Actions
Dragon Abilities (Fire Up)
Each Artisan Dragon type has a unique fire-up ability based on its Goods icon:
- Bread dragons: gain Reputation
- Meat dragons: draw Artisan Dragons
- Iron dragons: gain Goods
- Cloth dragons: gift Goods for Reputation
- Potion dragons: draw Fancy Dragons
- Plant dragons: gain Coins or various benefits
Enchantment Rewards
Enchantments grant Reputation, Fancy Dragons, Artisan Dragons, or Coins when cast. They also add a permanent Good production to the Shop.
Fancy Dragons
Secret goal cards that score Reputation when fulfilled (e.g., “have 3 Enchantments at Shops you visited” or “have placed Dragons at 4 different Shops”). Reveal and score at any time during your turn when conditions are met.
Scoring / Victory Conditions
The game ends immediately when either:
- The Artisan Dragon deck runs out, OR
- The Enchantment deck runs out.
Finish the current round so all players have equal turns. The player furthest ahead on the Reputation track wins. Ties broken by: most unspent Coins (each worth 1 Reputation), then most Goods, then most Artisan Dragons in hand.
Special Rules & Edge Cases
- Coins Are Wild: Coins may substitute for any Good when paying Enchantment costs (unless the Enchantment shows a “no coin” icon).
- Filling a Shop: When you place a Dragon in the last empty slot, immediately draw a new Shop card face-down. Multiple Shops can be drawn in one turn.
- Town Capacity: 12 Shop spaces in 1-2 player games; up to 14 in 3-5 player games. If Town is full, ignore “Filling a Shop.”
- Enchantment Limit: Each Shop can have at most 3 Enchantments.
- Visiting Occupied Shops: You must have enough Goods/Coins to pay each opponent 1 Good/Coin to visit their Shop.
- Dragon/Goods Limits: Max 7 Artisan Dragons in hand; max 7 Goods tokens in supply.
