Overview
Elefun is a children’s action game where players use butterfly nets to catch colorful butterflies launched into the air by a motorized elephant toy. The elephant’s trunk blows butterflies upward, and players race to catch as many as they can before they all flutter to the ground. The player who catches the most butterflies wins.
Components
- 1 motorized elephant base (battery-operated)
- 1 elephant trunk
- Butterfly pieces (lightweight fabric/plastic)
- Butterfly nets (1 per player, up to 3)
- On/Off switch
Setup
- Insert batteries into the elephant base (requires C or AA batteries depending on version).
- Assemble the butterfly nets by attaching the net to the ring and the ring to the handle.
- Place all of the butterflies into the opening on the top of the elephant.
- Reattach the trunk to the elephant.
- Each player chooses a butterfly net.
Turn Structure
Elefun is a real-time game with no turns. All players play simultaneously.
Gameplay
- When all players are ready, one player turns the switch on the elephant to ON.
- Lift the trunk up until the internal fan keeps it upright on its own – the game begins.
- The fan inside the elephant pushes the butterflies up through the trunk, and they fly out of the top.
- Players race to catch as many butterflies as they can with their nets as the butterflies float through the air.
- The game round ends when all butterflies have been launched and have either been caught or landed on the ground.
Actions
Catching Butterflies
- Swing your net through the air to catch butterflies as they float down.
- You may catch butterflies while they are in the air or as they are coming out of the trunk.
- Butterflies that land on the ground are out of play for that round.
Scoring / Victory Conditions
Winning
The player who catches the most butterflies wins the round.
Multiple Rounds
Players can play multiple rounds by collecting all butterflies, reloading the elephant, and playing again. Keep a running tally across rounds if desired.
Special Rules & Edge Cases
- Players should stand at arm’s length from the elephant to give everyone a fair chance.
- Do not reach into the elephant trunk or block the trunk opening.
- The game is designed for young children (ages 3+) and is meant to be energetic and fun rather than competitive.
- If the butterflies are not launching properly, check that the batteries are fresh and the trunk is properly attached.
- The elephant may launch butterflies at varying speeds depending on battery charge.
