Overview
Dynasty League Baseball is a detailed baseball simulation board game using three dice (red, white, blue) and individual player cards for hitters and pitchers. The game recreates real baseball with comprehensive ratings for batting, fielding, pitching endurance, and more. It is played according to official baseball rules, with dice rolls cross-referenced against player cards and various charts to determine outcomes. The game supports both individual replay and full league play with drafting, contracts, and seasons.
Components
- Player cards (hitters and pitchers) for various seasons
- Three dice (red, white, blue — read in order to generate 3-digit numbers)
- Scoresheets
- Playing charts: Situation Key, Baserunner Advancement, Weather, Umpire Crew, Ballpark effects, and more
- Official Rulebook and How-To-Play Guide
Setup
- Each manager writes their lineup on a scoresheet, selecting a starting pitcher and batting order.
- Weather: Home team manager rolls white and blue dice (generating 0-99) and consults the Weather chart for the region, month, and day/night status to determine temperature, sky, precipitation, and wind.
- Umpire Crews: Assign a crew to each series; roll two dice to determine the home plate umpire.
- Determine batting order and starting positions per normal baseball rules.
Turn Structure
The game follows standard baseball innings. Each half-inning:
- Roll dice (red, white, blue) to generate a 3-digit number (000-999).
- Check the appropriate card:
- Numbers 0-499: Check the hitter’s card
- Numbers 500-999: Check the pitcher’s card
- Find the result in the correct column (vs. Right or vs. Left, depending on pitcher/batter matchup).
- Resolve the play: Results include types of outs (groundout, flyout, strikeout), hits (single, double, triple, home run), walks, and special results.
- Advance baserunners: Results in parentheses on the card indicate automatic runner advancement. Optional advancement uses the Baserunner Advancement chart.
Continue until 3 outs are recorded; switch sides.
Actions
Batting
- Each hitter card has results for vs. Right and vs. Left columns.
- Bats rating (upper left, green) shows batting side and spray/pull tendency.
- Results specify hit type, direction, and baserunner advancement.
Pitching
- Pitcher cards include throws (right/left), endurance rating, and results columns.
- Endurance: Numerical rating = eligible to start. “Long” relief = 15 endurance. “Short” relief = 7 endurance.
- Track pitch count; pitcher effectiveness may decline with fatigue.
Fielding
- Position ratings: Range/Error/Throwing(outfielders)/Double Play Pivot(infielders)/Passed Ball/Catcher Handling.
- Ratings use A+ through F scale or numerical systems (5-100 for errors, -4 to +4 for throwing).
- Range affects defensive plays; Error ratings determine fielding percentage.
Baserunning
- Speed ratings affect stolen base attempts, extra-base advancement, and double play avoidance.
- Baserunner Advancement chart used for optional advancement situations.
Situation Key
- Covers special situations: sacrifice bunts, intentional walks, hit-and-run, stolen bases, pickoffs, double plays, and more.
- Each situation has specific dice roll procedures and charts.
Weather Effects
- Temperature, wind, precipitation affect gameplay (e.g., wind direction impacts home runs at certain parks).
- Ballpark-specific wind charts for each stadium.
Scoring / Victory Conditions
Games are won by standard baseball rules: the team with more runs after 9 innings (or extra innings if tied) wins.
League Play:
- Draft rules for building teams
- Player contracts (1-3 year terms with salary implications)
- Schedule setup for full seasons
- Post-season playoffs
Special Rules & Edge Cases
- Dice reading order: Always red, white, blue. White is tens die, blue is ones die for 2-digit chart lookups.
- Player Rest & Use: Rules govern how often pitchers can start, relief pitcher usage limits, and player fatigue across a series.
- Umpire effects: Different umpires have different strike zone tendencies that affect gameplay.
- Ballpark effects: Each stadium has unique characteristics (dimensions, wind patterns, altitude).
- Grading scale: A+ (best of all time) through F (rock bottom) for all ratings.
- Double Play Pivot: Special rating for 2B and SS (-5 tops, +5 bottom, blank for average).
- Catcher Handling: Affects pitcher performance.
