Overview

Castle Ravenloft is a cooperative dungeon-crawl board game set in the D&D universe. Players select heroes (Dragonborn Fighter, Human Rogue, Dwarf Cleric, Eladrin Wizard, Human Ranger) and explore randomly generated dungeons beneath Castle Ravenloft. Each turn, players move, attack monsters, explore new dungeon tiles, and face encounters. The game features multiple adventures with different objectives — all played cooperatively.

Components

Setup

  1. Choose an adventure from the adventure book. It specifies the starting tile, villain, and win conditions.
  2. Each player chooses a hero and takes their hero card, power cards, and figure.
  3. Shuffle the dungeon tile stack (as specified by the adventure).
  4. Shuffle monster, encounter, and treasure decks.
  5. Place heroes on the starting tile.
  6. Each hero starts with hit points as shown on their hero card and 2 healing surges.

Turn Structure

Each player’s turn has three phases:

1. Hero Phase: Move and/or attack.

2. Exploration Phase: If your hero is at the edge of an unexplored tile edge, draw a new dungeon tile and place it. Then draw a monster card and place the monster on the new tile.

3. Villain Phase: If you did NOT explore a new tile, draw an encounter card (usually something bad). Then activate each monster you control — monsters move and attack according to their cards.

Actions

At-Will Powers: Can be used every turn. Basic attacks and abilities.

Daily Powers: Powerful abilities that can only be used once per adventure.

Utility Powers: Special defensive or movement abilities.

Healing Surges: Spend a healing surge to regain hit points. Each hero starts with 2. Some treasures or abilities grant additional surges.

Scoring / Victory Conditions

Victory conditions depend on the adventure:

Losing: If any hero is reduced to 0 HP and has no healing surges remaining, all players lose. The game is fully cooperative — you win or lose together.
