Don’t Break the Ice is a classic dexterity game where players take turns tapping out ice blocks from a frame using mallets, trying not to make Phillip the Penguin fall through. The last player standing wins.
Components
1 ice tray frame
4 ice tray legs
Multiple ice blocks (fit into frame)
1 Phillip the Penguin figure
Mallets (1 per player)
Setup
Place the ice tray frame upside down on the table.
Attach the four ice tray legs to the bottom.
Keep frame upside down; load all ice blocks into the tray in rows, smooth side touching the table (open side visible).
Flip the frame right-side up.
Place Phillip the Penguin on top of the ice.
Turn Structure
The youngest player goes first. Play proceeds clockwise.
Actions
On your turn:
Pick up your mallet.
Choose one ice block to tap out of the frame.
Tap/hit the ice block with the mallet until it breaks free and drops.
You must continue with the same ice block once chosen – you cannot switch targets.
Scoring / Victory Conditions
If you knock out an ice block without Phillip falling, your turn ends and the next player goes.
If more than one ice block falls, that is fine as long as Phillip stays up.
If Phillip falls through the ice on your turn, you are eliminated.
The last player remaining who has not caused Phillip to fall wins.
Special Rules & Edge Cases
Once you choose an ice block, you must continue hitting that same block even if you know it will cause Phillip to fall.
Multiple blocks falling at once is allowed if Phillip stays up.
If Phillip falls, the player responsible is out of the game.
