Connect Four is a classic two-player abstract strategy game where players take turns dropping colored checkers into a vertical grid. The goal is to be the first to form a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line of four checkers of your color.
Components
1 vertical grid (6 rows x 7 columns)
2 end supports
21 black checkers
21 red checkers
Setup
Assemble the grid by inserting it into the two end supports.
Make sure the sliding lever is positioned so that the bars prevent the checkers from falling through the grid.
Place the game between the two players.
Each player takes all the checkers of one color. The opponent takes the other color.
Turn Structure
Players alternate turns. On each turn, a player drops one checker into any of the 7 slots at the top of the grid. The checker falls to the lowest available position in that column.
Actions
Drop a Checker: On your turn, drop 1 of your colored checkers down any of the slots at the top of the grid.
The checker will fall to the lowest unoccupied row in that column.
Play alternates until one player gets four checkers in a row.
Scoring / Victory Conditions
The first player to get four of their checkers in a row – horizontally, vertically, or diagonally – wins the game.
If the grid is completely filled and no player has four in a row, the game is a draw.
Special Rules & Edge Cases
The player who starts the first game will play second in the next game (alternating first player).
A column is full when checkers reach the top slot; no further checkers may be placed in that column.
To start another game, clear the board by sliding the lever at the base of the grid to one side. The checkers will drop out, and you are ready to start the next game. Be sure to slide the lever back to its original position.
