Overview
Coloretto is a card game where players draw colored cards and try to specialize in a few colors. At game end, a player scores plus points for only 3 colors; all other colors score minus points. The more cards of a color, the more points scored. The player with the most points wins.
Components
- 63 color cards (9 cards each in 7 colors)
- 10 “+2” cards
- 1 “last round” card
- 3 jokers
- 5 row cards
- 5 summary cards
- 13 blank cards (not used in this game)
Setup
- Place one row card per player in the middle of the table. Return unused row cards to the box.
- Each player takes one summary card.
- With 3 players, remove all cards of one color from the game.
- Each player takes one card of another color and places it face up in their play area.
- Remove the “last round” card and set it aside.
- Shuffle remaining cards face down as a supply pile.
- Deal 15 cards from the supply face down in a stack. Place the “last round” card on top of this stack of 15 cards. Then place the rest of the supply on top.
- Choose a starting player randomly.
Turn Structure
On a player’s turn, they must do one of two actions:
- A. Draw and place a card, OR
- B. Take a card row
Play passes to the left. When each player has taken a card row, the round ends and a new round begins.
Actions
A. Draw and Place a Card
- Draw the topmost card from the supply and place it face up next to any row card.
- Maximum 3 cards next to any row card.
- If all row cards have 3 cards, this action is not available; the player must take a card row.
B. Take a Card Row
- Take any row card and all cards next to it. Place them face up in your play area, sorted by color.
- Jokers are set aside until end of game (player decides which color at game end).
- A row card may only be taken if it has at least one card next to it.
- After taking a row, the player takes no more turns this round.
- The taken row card stays in the player’s area to show they are done for the round.
End of a Round
When every player has taken a card row:
- Return all row cards to the middle of the table.
- Begin the next round with the player who took the last card row.
Scoring / Victory Conditions
When the “last round” card is drawn, this is the last round. Place it to the side as a reminder, then draw the next card.
At round end, players assign jokers to colors. Each player counts cards per color.

- Each player chooses 3 colors to score as plus points.
- All other colors score as minus points (same table values, but negative).
- Each “+2” card scores +2 points regardless.
- No extra points for more than 6 cards in a color.
The player with the most points after four games is the winner.
Special Rules & Edge Cases
- With 3 players, one entire color is removed before the game starts.
- Jokers must wait until game end to be assigned; they can each be a different color.
- A player who has taken a card row cannot act until the next round.
- The “+2” cards always score positive points, even if taken with a minus-scoring color.
- The “last round” card triggers the final round when drawn; the current round completes normally.
