Overview

Clans of Caledonia is a strategic economic game set in 19th-century Scotland. Players represent unique historical clans competing to produce, trade, and export agricultural goods and whisky. Over 5 rounds, players expand their settlements, produce goods, fulfill export contracts, and score points. The clan with the most glory points wins.

Components

Setup

  1. Assemble the modular board with 4 randomly selected map tiles.
  2. Each player selects a clan and takes their clan board.
  3. Place starting workers and initial resources per clan setup.
  4. Lay out port tiles, scoring tiles, and the market board.
  5. Deal export contracts and place the round scoring tiles.
  6. Give each player starting money (varies by turn order).

Turn Structure

Each of the 5 rounds has 3 phases:

Phase 1: Actions (Player Turns)

Players take turns clockwise, performing one action per turn, until all players pass. Once you pass, you take no more actions this round.

Phase 2: Production

All players simultaneously produce goods from their settlements: dairy produces milk, bakeries produce bread, sheep fields produce wool, etc.

Phase 3: Round Scoring

Score based on the current round’s scoring tile (varies each game).
