Overview

Chicken Chicken is a memory and reaction game where players must silently track the number of Egg cards currently “in play” as cards are revealed from a deck one at a time. When a player believes there are 5 or more Eggs in play, they slap the pile to score a point. The first player to collect 3 points and assemble a complete egg token wins.

Components

Setup

  1. Construct the base deck using: 15 Chicken Eggs, 10 Hens, and 10 Foxes. Return remaining cards to the box.
  2. Shuffle the deck and place it within reach of all players.
  3. Give each player 3 egg segments of the same color to track their score.

Turn Structure

The game has no individual turns in the traditional sense. One player serves as the Head Farmer and controls the card reveal.

Card Reveal Phase

The Head Farmer slowly reveals cards from the deck, one by one, stacking them face-up so only the most recent card is visible. All players silently count how many Egg cards are currently “in play.”

Card Interactions

Actions

Slap the Pile

When any player believes there are 5 or more Eggs in play, they slap the pile of face-up cards. The first player to slap scores 1 point and collects one of their colored egg segments.

Issue a Challenge

If another player believes the slapper was wrong (fewer than 5 Eggs in play), they may declare a challenge. The Head Farmer replays the cards in original order to demonstrate the count.

End of Round

After a slap (resolved with any challenges), gather all cards, shuffle the deck, and begin a new round. The player to the left of the current Head Farmer becomes the new Head Farmer.

Scoring / Victory Conditions

Once any player has collected 3 points and assembled a complete egg token, they win the game. If multiple players complete their eggs in the same round, they share the victory.

Special Rules & Edge Cases

Bonus Card Variants (add after learning the base game)

Card Quantity Effect
Roger the Farmer x1 “Collects” all Eggs currently in play (subtract all). Does NOT collect Eggs that Hens are sitting on. Add 5 extra Egg cards to the deck.
Aspen the Dog x2 Chases away the next Fox (negating its effect). Stays until a Fox appears.
Vanessa the Disguised Fox x2 Replaces a regular Fox. Same effect as Fox but NOT stopped by the Dog.
Dolly the Duck x2 All players must say “Quack!” (or “Quack! Quack!” for second appearance). No effect on egg count.
Rico the Rooster x1 Immediately ends the round. First player to slap must announce the current egg count. Challenges proceed as normal.
Tiger the Worm x2 Distracts the next Hen from sitting on an Egg (negates the Hen’s effect).
Double the Ostrich Egg x2 Counts as 2 Eggs. A Hen cannot sit on it. The Farmer can collect it.

Warning: Do not add too many variant cards at once.
