Catan Scenarios: Frenemies is an expansion scenario for The Settlers of Catan that introduces a “favor token” system rewarding players for cooperative actions. Players earn favor tokens by moving the robber harmlessly, giving away resources, or connecting road networks with opponents. These tokens can be redeemed at five different guilds for various advantages. The game is won by reaching 11 Victory Points (instead of the standard 10).
In a 3-player game, remove all favor tokens with a dot on their face. In a 4-player game, use all tokens.
Favor tokens are earned in one of three ways:
1. Move the Robber Harmlessly (1 FT) After rolling a “7” or playing a Knight card, earn 1 FT if you:
2. Give Away a Resource Card (1 FT) On your turn, you may offer 1 resource card to an opponent who has equal or fewer visible VPs than you. The opponent may accept, reject, or request a different resource. If accepted, you earn 1 FT. You may only give away 1 resource per turn. If rejected, you may offer to a different eligible player.
3. Connect Networks (3 FTs + 1 FT) If you build a road connecting your network to an opponent’s network for the first time:
Only first-time connections between different-colored networks count. Subsequent connections between the same two networks at different points yield no tokens. Connecting your own networks to each other yields nothing. Setup-phase connections yield nothing.
If one road connects your network to two opponents simultaneously, you receive only 3 FTs total. Each opponent earns 1 FT.
On your turn, you may either redeem or exchange favor tokens. You may NOT use FTs earned during the current turn; you must wait until your next turn. FTs may not be given away or traded.
Redeeming Favor Tokens:
Return the required tokens face up to the matching guild hall:

Favors must be performed immediately and cannot be saved.
Exchanging a Favor Token: Instead of redeeming, draw 1 FT from the supply, then return 1 of your FTs (may be the one just drawn) back to the supply.
The game ends immediately when a player reaches 11 Victory Points during their turn. VP markers from Master Builders count toward this total.
