Overview

Catan: Portable Edition (also known as Catan: Travel Edition) is a compact version of the classic Settlers of Catan board game designed for travel. The rules are identical to the standard game. Players collect resources, trade, and build roads, settlements, and cities on the island of Catan. The compact form factor features interlocking hexes and smaller components that are more portable but otherwise play identically to the standard edition.

Components

Setup

Standard Catan setup in portable format:

  1. Arrange hex tiles (fixed beginner layout or variable).
  2. Place number tokens.
  3. Each player places 2 settlements and 2 roads.
  4. Collect starting resources from second settlement’s adjacent hexes.

Turn Structure

Identical to standard Catan:

  1. Roll dice: All hexes with the matching number produce resources for adjacent settlements/cities.
  2. Trade: Negotiate with other players or use 4:1 bank trades (or harbor rates).
  3. Build: Spend resources on roads, settlements, cities, or development cards.

Actions

Rolling 7: Move robber, steal 1 resource from adjacent player, players with 8+ cards discard half.
