Overview
Castle Flutterstone is a dexterity-based children’s racing game by Drei Magier Spiele for 2-4 players aged 6 and up. Players race their pawns to the top of a spooky 3D castle by launching cloth bats with a catapult instead of rolling dice. Where the bat lands determines how far a player moves. Ghost cards add unpredictable twists that can help or hinder progress. The first player to reach the top of the castle wins the golden bat trophy.
Components
- 1 three-dimensional castle game board with multiple levels
- 1 bat catapult mechanism
- Cloth bats for launching
- Player pawns (4 colors)
- Ghost cards
- Golden bat trophy
Setup
- Assemble the 3D castle game board.
- Each player chooses a pawn color and places it at the starting position at the base of the castle.
- Shuffle the Ghost cards and place them in a face-down draw pile.
- Place the catapult mechanism in position.
- Determine a starting player.
Turn Structure
On each turn, the active player:
- Launches a bat using the catapult toward the castle.
- Checks where the bat lands to determine movement.
- Moves their pawn the appropriate number of spaces up the castle.
- Draws a Ghost card if the bat lands in the moat, and resolves its effect.
Actions
Launch the Bat: Use the catapult to fling a cloth bat at the castle. Aim for specific landing zones to maximize movement.
Landing Results:
- On the castle: Move 1-2 spaces depending on where the bat lands.
- In the moat: Draw a Ghost card and resolve its effect.
Ghost Cards: These cards have various effects:
- Some help the player (move extra spaces, take another turn).
- Some hinder the player (move backwards, lose a turn).
- Effects vary and add unpredictability to the game.
Scoring / Victory Conditions
There is no point scoring. The first player to reach the top of the castle wins the game and claims the golden bat trophy.
Special Rules & Edge Cases
- The dexterity element (catapult launching) replaces traditional dice rolling, making each turn exciting and unpredictable.
- Younger players may need help with the catapult.
- Ghost cards create catch-up mechanics that keep the game competitive.
- The 3D castle board is both the game board and a visual centerpiece.
