Overview
Bunker Poker is a simple luck-driven deduction game for 2 to 4 players, ages 8 and up. Each player hides a “king” piece under one of six large dice on their game board section. Players take turns rolling dice to reduce opponents’ dice values while protecting their own, with the goal of revealing and capturing other players’ hidden king pieces. The last player with their king still hidden wins.
Components
- Game board with sections for each player (6 spaces per section)
- 6 large discs per player (for hiding the king)
- 1 kingpin piece per player
- 2 black dice (action dice)
- Additional dice for pip management
Setup
- Each player takes their section of the game board and 6 large discs.
- Without the other players seeing, each player places their kingpin piece under one of the 6 discs.
- Place all 6 discs (showing value 6) on the 6 spaces of their board section, hiding the kingpin underneath one of them.
- Determine a starting player.
Turn Structure
On each turn, the current player:
- Rolls the two black action dice.
- Based on the combination rolled, performs the allowed actions (rotating enemy dice down or friendly dice up).
- If any enemy disc reaches 0, the player may look under it to check for the kingpin.
Actions
Rolling the Action Dice:
- Roll the two black dice. The combination determines what actions are available.
Rotate an Enemy Die Down:
- Reduce the value shown on one of an opponent’s discs by the number of pips indicated.
- When a disc reaches 0, it can be “looked under” — if the kingpin is there, that player is eliminated.
Rotate Your Own Die Up:
- Increase the value shown on one of your own discs by the number of pips indicated.
- This helps protect your hidden king by keeping discs at higher values.
Look Under a Disc:
- When an opponent’s disc reaches 0, you may look under it.
- If the kingpin is there, that player is eliminated from the game.
- If the kingpin is not there, the disc is removed and the search continues.
Scoring / Victory Conditions
The last player whose kingpin has not been found wins the game.
If only two players remain and one player’s king is found, the other player wins immediately.
Special Rules & Edge Cases
- Hidden Information: The key strategic element is choosing where to hide your kingpin. Players must balance between protecting certain discs and misleading opponents about the kingpin’s location.
- Disc Removal: Once a disc at 0 is checked and found empty, it is removed from the game board. This narrows down the possible locations of each player’s kingpin.
- Bluffing Element: The name “Bunker Poker” comes from the bluffing element — players may try to protect certain discs to deceive opponents about where their king is hidden.
- Quick Game: With a play time of about 20 minutes, the game is designed as a light filler.
