Bugs! Bugs! Bugs! is a children’s card game for 2 to 4 players where players collect bug cards while avoiding the dreaded stinkbug. Players draw cards to build their bug collection, but must watch out for ants (which end your turn) and stinkbugs (which penalize you at game end). The player with the most bugs who does not hold the stinkbug wins.
Components
Deck of bug cards (various insects)
Ant cards (turn-ending cards)
Stinkbug card(s)
Setup
Shuffle all cards together into a single draw pile.
Place the draw pile in the center of the table.
Determine starting player.
Turn Structure
On each turn:
Draw a card from the draw pile.
Resolve the card:
Bug card: Add it to your collection. You may draw again if you wish.
Ant card: Your turn ends immediately. Keep any bugs you drew before the ant.
Stinkbug card: You must take it, even from another player if they have it. Your turn continues.
Choose to stop drawing (keeping collected bugs) or draw again (risking an ant).
Actions
Draw a Card:
Take the top card from the draw pile.
If it’s a bug: keep it and optionally draw again.
If it’s an ant: your turn is over.
If it’s a stinkbug: you must take it (may steal it from another player).
Push Your Luck:
After drawing a bug, you may choose to draw again for more bugs.
Drawing an ant ends your turn, but you keep previously drawn bugs from that turn.
Scoring / Victory Conditions
When the draw pile is exhausted:
Count the number of bug cards each player has collected.
The player holding the stinkbug cannot win, regardless of their bug count.
Among the remaining players, the one with the most bug cards wins.
Special Rules & Edge Cases
Stinkbug Penalty: The stinkbug is an automatic disqualifier. If you hold it at game end, you lose regardless of your collection size.
Stinkbug Theft: You must take the stinkbug when you draw it. If another player already has it, it transfers to you.
Ant Stops Turn: Drawing an ant immediately ends your turn, creating a push-your-luck element.
Risk Management: The core decision each turn is whether to keep drawing (hoping for more bugs) or stop (protecting your collection from the ant penalty).
Children’s Game: Simple enough for young children while teaching risk assessment and counting.
