Overview
Big Adventure (also known as Crazy Adventures or Bolshaya Brodilka) is a family board game with roll-and-move mechanics supplemented by aggressive player interaction through cards. The game is notable for its absurd humor and constantly changing rules. Players race along a path, using cards to advance, hinder opponents, and modify the game’s rules. The game is designed to be playable immediately after unpacking, with rules that emerge organically through card play.
Components
- Game board with a path of spaces
- Player pawns
- Dice
- Action/event cards
- Rule-modifying cards
Setup
Place the game board in the center. Each player selects a pawn and places it on the start space. Shuffle the card deck and place it face down. Determine the first player.
Turn Structure
On each turn:
- Roll and Move: Roll the dice and move your pawn forward along the path.
- Land on Space: Perform any action associated with the space (draw card, gain/lose position, etc.).
- Play Cards: Optionally play cards from your hand to affect yourself, other players, or the game’s rules.
Actions
- Move: Roll dice and advance along the path. Various spaces may modify movement.
- Draw Cards: Landing on certain spaces or through game effects, draw cards that provide one-time effects or ongoing rule changes.
- Play Cards: Use cards to advance yourself, send opponents backward, skip turns, or introduce new temporary rules.
- Rule Modification: Some cards change the fundamental rules of the game (e.g., reversing direction, changing how dice are rolled, altering victory conditions). These changes persist until another card overrides them.
Scoring / Victory Conditions
The first player to reach the final space on the path wins. However, rule-modifying cards may change victory conditions during play.
Special Rules & Edge Cases
- Emergent Rules: The game’s rules evolve as cards are played, making each game session unique.
- Player Interaction: Cards frequently target other players, creating a chaotic and interactive experience.
- No Fixed Rules: The game intentionally subverts traditional rule structures, with card effects potentially contradicting or overriding base rules.
- Family Friendly: Despite the chaos, the game is designed for family play with simple core mechanics.
