Overview
Bezzerwizzer is a trivia game combining general knowledge with tactical play. Teams draw category tiles, assign point values to them strategically, and answer questions. Tactical tiles let you steal opponents’ questions or swap categories. The first team to complete a lap around the scoring track wins.
Components
- 1 game board (with scoring track)
- 20 category tiles
- 8 Bezzerwizzer tiles (2 per team color)
- 4 Zwap tiles (1 per team color)
- 4 playing pieces
- 1 card holder
- 147 question cards
- 1 bag for tiles
- 1 game guide
Setup
- Players form 2, 3, or 4 teams. A team can have one or more players.
- Each team chooses a color, takes a matching playing piece, 2 Bezzerwizzer tiles, and 1 Zwap tile.
- Put all category tiles in the bag.
- Place playing pieces on the starting space of the scoring track.
- Decide which team starts the first round.
Turn Structure
Each round proceeds as follows:
- Each team draws 4 category tiles from the bag and places them face-up on the 4 numbered squares (1-4 dots) on their side of the board.
- Teams strategically assign tiles to point values: 1 point, 2 points, 3 points, or 4 points.
- Starting with the first team, each team answers their 1-point question (read by another team). Correct answers advance the playing piece 1 space.
- Then all teams answer their 2-point questions, then 3-point, then 4-point.
- After each question (correct or not), the category tile is turned face-down (closed).
- A new question card is drawn for each question.
- After all teams have answered all 4 questions, tiles go back in the bag and a new round begins.
- The right to start the next round rotates clockwise.
Actions
Answering Questions
- The current team answers a question from the category on their active tile.
- Correct answer: advance the playing piece by the tile’s point value.
- Incorrect answer or pass: the piece stays in place.
Bezzerwizzer (Steal)
- Play a Bezzerwizzer tile to attempt another team’s question.
- Call out “Bezzerwizzer!” and place the tile on the board, before or after the question is read.
- The defending team answers first. If they answer correctly, the Bezzerwizzer team gets nothing.
- If the defending team fails:
- Before the question was read: Bezzerwizzer team scores 3 points for a correct answer.
- After the question was read: Bezzerwizzer team scores 1 point for a correct answer.
- Incorrect Bezzerwizzer answer: -1 penalty point (team on starting space cannot move back).
- Home stretch rule: If the defending team is in the home stretch (white arrows), the Bezzerwizzer team may choose to move the defending team back 1 or 3 spaces instead of advancing themselves.
Zwap (Swap)
- Play a Zwap tile during your own turn, before the question is read.
- Swap any 2 open (face-up) category tiles on the board – your own or opponents’.
- Cannot swap closed (face-down) tiles.
- If a Bezzerwizzer was already played on a swapped tile, that team may take back their Bezzerwizzer.
Tactical Tile Management
- Used tactical tiles remain out of play until the next round begins.
- Teams are not required to use tactical tiles in any given round.
Scoring / Victory Conditions
- The game ends when one team reaches the last space on the scoring track (same as starting space – a full lap).
- Teams do not need to land on the last space by exact count.
- If some teams have played fewer questions, the round continues until all teams have attempted the same number.
- If multiple teams reach the last space in the same round, a play-off is held:
- All tied teams draw 1 category tile each.
- Each team answers a question from their drawn category.
- If all answer correctly, another play-off round is held.
- This continues until only one team answers correctly – that team wins.
Special Rules & Edge Cases
- A team on the starting space can never move back below it.
- Multiple teams may play Bezzerwizzers on the same question – first to call out and place the tile gets priority.
- Zwap can be used defensively (swapping your weak category to an opponent) or offensively (taking a strong category from an opponent).
