Overview
Bermude is an abstract strategy game for 2-4 players in which players place and move marbles on triangular pieces to create chains. The game combines spatial reasoning with tactical placement as players attempt to build the longest chain of their colored marbles on a modular board of triangular tiles. The game features simple rules with surprising strategic depth.
Components
- Triangular board tiles (forming a modular playing surface)
- Colored marbles (one set per player)
- Rules booklet
Setup
Arrange the triangular tiles to form the playing surface according to the chosen configuration. Each player takes their set of colored marbles. Determine the first player.
Turn Structure
Players take turns in clockwise order:
- Place or Move: On your turn, either place a new marble from your supply onto an empty space or move an existing marble on the board.
- Check Chains: After placement or movement, check if any new chains have been formed or extended.
Actions
- Place a Marble: Place one marble from your supply onto any empty space on the triangular board.
- Move a Marble: Move one of your existing marbles to an adjacent empty space on the board.
- Build Chains: Connect your marbles in a continuous line across triangle edges. Longer chains score higher.
Scoring / Victory Conditions
The game ends when all players have placed or cannot move their marbles. Players score points based on the length of their longest chain of connected marbles. The player with the longest chain (or most total chain points) wins.
Special Rules & Edge Cases
- Triangle Geometry: The triangular grid creates a different spatial dynamic than square or hex grids, with each space having up to six neighbors.
- Blocking: Players can block opponents by placing marbles in key positions to break potential chains.
- Modular Board: The board configuration can vary between games, providing replay variety.
- Movement Restrictions: Marbles can only move to adjacent empty spaces; they cannot jump over other marbles.
