Bed Bugs is a fast-paced dexterity game for 2–3 players, ages 4 and up. A motorized bed vibrates, causing colorful plastic bugs to bounce and hop around on the playing surface. Players use tongs to catch bugs of specific colors. The player who captures the most bugs at the end of the game wins.
Components
1 motorized bed unit (requires 2 “C” cell alkaline batteries, not included)
1 cardboard playing surface (inserts into the bed frame)
48 plastic bug playing pieces (in 4 colors: red, blue, yellow, green — 12 of each)
4 pairs of plastic tongs (one per player, though only 2–3 used)
1 label sheet
Instructions
Setup
Attach the game label to the bed’s foot.
Insert the cardboard playing surface into the bed frame, making sure battery wires rest in the plastic channels.
Install two “C” cell alkaline batteries.
Cover batteries with the battery lid.
Test the motor via the ON/OFF switch.
Place all 48 bugs on the playing surface.
Each player takes one pair of tongs.
Turn Structure
The game plays in rounds:
Announce Color: The youngest player (or the current active player) turns on the motor and announces a target color (red, blue, yellow, or green).
Catch Bugs: As the bed vibrates, all players simultaneously use their tongs to grab bugs matching the announced color.
Round End: Once no bugs of that color remain on the bed, the round ends.
Clean Up: Any bugs caught that do NOT match the announced color are returned to the bed. Correctly caught bugs go into each player’s personal pile.
Next Round: Play passes to the left. The new active player announces a different color, turns the motor on, and a new round begins.
Repeat until all bugs have been captured.
Actions
Catching Bugs
Use your tongs to grab bugs of the announced color while the bed is vibrating.
Only bugs matching the announced color count; incorrect bugs must be returned.
All players grab simultaneously — speed and dexterity are key.
Announcing a Color
The active player chooses which color to announce for the current round.
This adds a minor strategic element (calling a color you’re positioned near).
Scoring / Victory Conditions
After all bugs have been captured, each player counts the total bugs in their pile.
The player with the most captured bugs wins.
Special Rules & Edge Cases
If bugs don’t jump properly, flex the cardboard playing surface slightly to adjust vibration intensity.
If a player catches bugs of the wrong color during a round, those bugs are returned to the bed.
The game is designed for ages 4+, with extremely simple rules and no reading required.
