Bataclan is a dexterity game where players take turns stacking dice on top of each other to build a tower. The dice faces must show increasing values as the tower grows higher. If the tower falls on your turn, you take all the dice. The goal is to get rid of all your dice first.
Components
28 Wooden dice in three sizes:
Small dice (natural wood color)
Medium dice (red)
Large dice (green)
1 Black velvet dish with raised rim (dinner plate-sized)
Setup
Distribute all 28 dice evenly among players.
Place the velvet dish in the center of the table.
Determine who goes first.
Turn Structure
On each turn:
Choose one of your dice.
Place it on top of the tower (or start the tower if it’s the first turn).
The die face showing upward must be equal to or higher than the face showing on the previous die.
If the tower falls, collect all the fallen dice and add them to your supply.
Actions
Placing a Die
Select any die from your personal supply.
Place it carefully on top of the existing tower.
The value showing on top of your placed die must be equal to or higher than the value on the die below it.
You may choose which face is showing when you place the die.
Tower Collapse
If the tower collapses during or after your placement, you must take ALL dice from the collapsed tower.
Add them to your supply of dice to play.
Start a new tower on the next player’s turn.
Scoring / Victory Conditions
The first player to get rid of all their dice wins the game.
Special Rules & Edge Cases
The different sizes of dice (small, medium, large) create varying levels of difficulty when stacking.
Larger dice are easier to stack on but take up more room; smaller dice are harder to balance but lighter.
Players must place dice carefully – no slamming or intentionally destabilizing.
The velvet dish helps contain fallen dice and provides a soft landing surface.
If a die falls off the tower but the tower remains standing, the player who caused the fall takes only the fallen die.
