Overview
Barons is a card game published by Cambridge Games Factory in 2010 about building a barony worthy of a great cathedral. Using a simpler mechanic than Glory to Rome (a related card game), Barons has a lot of depth from the large number of card functions. Players use multi-use cards to build structures, recruit followers, and develop their barony.
Components
- Multi-use cards (serving as resources, buildings, and followers)
- Player reference cards
- Rules booklet
Setup
- Shuffle the card deck.
- Deal starting hands to each player.
- Set up the central card pool/market.
Turn Structure
On each turn, a player:
- Plays cards from their hand to perform actions.
- Uses card functions to build structures and recruit followers.
- Draws new cards.
Actions
- Build structures: Play cards as resources to construct buildings that provide ongoing benefits.
- Recruit followers: Use cards to gain followers that enhance your barony.
- Produce resources: Some buildings generate resources for future turns.
