Overview

Altiplano is a bag-building game set in the South American highlands of Bolivia and Peru. Players generate wealth by fishing, mining, breeding alpacas, and trading goods from limited resources. Players draw goods tiles from personal bags, plan actions at locations, and move around a circular route of 7 locations to execute those plans. The player who amasses the most points through goods, extensions, orders, and other assets wins.

Components

Setup

  1. Place 7 location tiles in a random circle.
  2. Stock locations with goods/cards based on player count.
  3. Place food tiles and coins in the center.
  4. Prepare extension pile (A on top, then B, C, D on bottom), reveal top 5.
  5. Each player takes: 1 action board, 1 warehouse, 1 game figure, 1 marker, 1 container, 1 cart, 1 cloth bag.
  6. Each player receives a role tile determining their starting goods and special ability.
  7. Place starting goods tiles in your bag.

Turn Structure

  2. Planning Phase: Place drawn tiles on action spaces of your action board to plan actions at various locations.
  3. Action Phase: Move your figure to locations (1 step per turn or more with roads) and execute planned actions there. All players act simultaneously.
  4. Clean-up Phase: Return used tiles to your container. When your bag is empty, transfer all container tiles back to the bag.
