Adventure Land
Overview
King Agamis calls adventurers to protect his kingdom from fog creatures. Players move adventurers across a grid board, collecting gold, herbs, swords, and companions while fighting fog creatures. The game includes three different adventure scenarios with varying objectives and scoring. Adventurers can only move south or east (down or right), never north or west.
Components
- 1 Game board (grid with terrain types)
- 110 Terrain cards (30 city, 18 river, 28 mountain, 14 fog, 20 forest)
- 14 Fog creatures (values: 4x strength-4, 4x strength-3, 3x strength-2, 2x strength-1, 1x strength-0)
- 28 Swords (values 0, 1, 2, 3)
- 20 Herbs (values 2, 3, 4)
- 18 Gold pieces
- 30 Companions + 1 Water sprite
- 40 Adventurers (10 per color: black, green, violet, orange)
- 4 Scoring markers
- 3 Adventure overview cards
- 3 Dice
Setup
- Place game board in the center. Place terrain cards, fog creatures, swords, and herbs in face-down stacks.
- Place companions, water sprite, and gold nearby.
- Choose one of the three adventures and place its overview card.
- Each player chooses a color and places scoring marker on 0.
- Set aside adventurers, companions, and swords per player count:
- 2 players: 0 removed, 8 of each companion/sword removed
- 3 players: 2 of each color removed, 5 of each companion/sword removed
- 4 players: 2 of each color removed, 2 of each companion/sword removed
- Place adventurers in starting areas (outside rows 1-4 and columns A-D).
- Draw 8 terrain cards and place items on the board.
Turn Structure
Clockwise from youngest player, each turn has 2 actions:
- Draw 2 terrain cards and place corresponding items on the board.
- Move adventurer(s): Either move 1 adventurer twice, or 2 adventurers once each.
Actions
Drawing Terrain Cards
Draw 2 cards. The coordinates indicate where to place items:
- Forest: Place top herb tile face-down
- Mountain: Place top sword tile face-down
- City: Place a companion
- River: Place a gold tile (with water sprite on top)
- Fog: Place top fog creature face-up. Then draw another terrain card (fog cards do not count toward the 2 per turn).
Moving Adventurers
Movement rules:
- Move only south (down) or east (right). Never north or west.
- Can leap over other adventurers, companions, and tiles (except fog creatures and the water sprite).
- Cannot end on a space with another adventurer or the water sprite.
- When landing on items: River = take gold; Forest/Mountain = take herb/sword; City = companion joins; Fog = fight.
Water Sprite
When gold appears on the river, the water sprite moves to that location. All adventurers and companions on river spaces the water sprite passes are removed from the game.
Combat
When an adventurer enters a fog creature’s space, combat occurs.
Combat strength = 1 (adventurer) + 1 per companion + sword dice rolls (up to 3 swords, roll 1 die each) + sword bonus values + herbs used + gold used.
Using gold in combat: Either gain +1 strength per gold, or reroll one die per gold spent.
- Win (strength >= fog creature value): Take the fog creature tile. Adventurer stays.
- Lose: Adventurer, companions, used swords, herbs, and gold are removed from the game.
If a fog creature appears on an occupied space, combat is immediate.
Scoring / Victory Conditions
Scoring depends on the chosen adventure scenario:
Adventure 1 - The Fellowship: Score points based on defeated fog creatures and collected resources.
Adventure 2 - The Magnificent: More challenging scoring with different victory conditions.
Adventure 3 - Escape to the Cities: Multiple simultaneous objectives.
Highest score wins.
Special Rules & Edge Cases
- An adventurer already on a space where an item appears collects it immediately.
- If the terrain card deck runs out, shuffle the discard pile.
- Fog creatures that appear on an occupied field trigger immediate combat (even if it is not that player’s turn).
- Swords are not lost in victorious combat; only herbs and gold spent are consumed.
- Companions permanently join an adventurer and move with them.
- An adventurer can have any number of companions.
- Maximum 3 swords used per combat.
