Overview

ABBA Monopoly is a themed edition of Monopoly where ABBA singles replace streets, studios replace houses, and tokens are ABBA-themed (Napoleon hat, platform boot, vinyl record, bag of money, telephone, star guitar). The core Monopoly rules apply: players move around the board buying and trading properties, collecting rent, and trying to bankrupt all opponents. The last player remaining wins.

Components

Setup

  1. Place the board on the table. Put Chance and Community Chest cards face-down on their spaces.
  2. Each player chooses a token and places it on GO.
  3. Each player receives $1,500: 2x $500, 2x $100, 2x $50, 6x $20, 5x $10, 5x $5, 5x $1.
  4. Select a Banker (may also play). Remaining money and equipment go to the Bank.

Turn Structure

  1. Roll both dice and move your token that many spaces in the direction of the arrow.
  2. Resolve the space you land on (buy property, pay rent, draw card, etc.).
  3. If you rolled doubles, roll again and take another turn. Three consecutive doubles send you to Jail.

Actions

Action Description
Buy Property Land on unowned property: buy at printed price, receive Title Deed. If declined, property is auctioned to highest bidder.
Pay Rent Land on owned property: pay rent per Title Deed. No rent on mortgaged properties. Double rent for complete color-group (unimproved). Owner must ask for rent before second following player rolls.
Build Studios Own all properties in a color-group: buy studios (houses) from Bank at Title Deed price. Must build evenly across the group. Max 4 per property.
Build Record Labels 4 studios on each property in a group: return 4 studios, pay hotel price, place 1 record label (hotel). Max 1 per property.
Draw Card Land on Chance/Community Chest: follow card instructions.
Income Tax Pay $200 flat or 10% of total worth (decide before calculating).
Go to Jail Via space, card, or 3 doubles. Move directly to Jail; do not collect $200.
Sell Property Sell unimproved properties to any player at any agreed price. Must sell all buildings in color-group first.
Mortgage Mortgage unimproved properties through Bank at printed mortgage value. No rent collectible. Lift mortgage by paying mortgage + 10% interest.
Trade Negotiate trades with other players at any time.

Scoring / Victory Conditions

Special Rules & Edge Cases

Short Game Variant (60-90 min)

  1. Banker deals 3 random Title Deeds free to each player.
  2. Only 3 studios needed before buying a record label.
  3. Jail exit: must leave on next turn (card, doubles, or $50).
  4. Income Tax: flat $200 only.
  5. Game ends when first player goes bankrupt; richest remaining player wins.

Time Limit Variant

Agree on end time. Banker deals 2 Title Deeds to each player (paid at printed price). Richest player at time limit wins.
