5 Second Rule is a fast-paced party game where players must quickly name three things in a given category before a 5-second timer runs out. The player who successfully names three valid answers scores a point. The player with the most points at the end of the game wins.
Components
576 questions on 288 double-sided cards
1 five-second twisted timer
Setup
Place the card box with cards on the table within everyone’s reach, along with the timer.
Determine the number of rounds to play:
Larger groups: 2-3 rounds
Smaller groups: 4-5 rounds
Turn Structure
The person who owns the game sits in the “Hot Seat” first. Play moves to the right.
The player to the left of the Hot Seat player draws a card and reads it aloud. All cards begin with “Name 3…” followed by a category.
As soon as the card is read, flip the timer. The Hot Seat player has 5 seconds to give 3 answers.
If 3 acceptable answers are given before the balls reach the bottom of the timer, the player scores 1 point (keeps the card).
If the player fails, play moves to the right. The next player gets 5 seconds to answer the same question but cannot reuse any previously given answers.
Play continues around the circle until someone names 3 in 5 seconds.
If it returns to the original player with no one succeeding, the original player scores 1 point by default.
The person to the right of the original player becomes the new Hot Seat player with a new card.

Scoring / Victory Conditions

Tie-breaker: Tied players play one additional round. The oldest tied player takes the Hot Seat first. The player who scores the point wins.
Special Rules & Edge Cases
Timer note: 5 seconds is up when the balls finish twisting and hit the bottom. The “zoop” sound effect does not time anything.
Questionable answers: The group as a whole decides if answers are acceptable. Answers may be looked up online.
Reuse restriction: When a question passes to the next player, all previously given answers for that card are off-limits.
Team variant: May play as 2-person teams for a fun twist. Be careful not to shout answers over one another.
